Developing a Mechanism-Informed AI Collaborator for Biomedical Research

BIOVISTA

Biovista is a biotechnology and drug development company specializing in AI-driven drug repositioning (repurposing), drug de-risking, and personalized medicine.

Core Focus & Capabilities
  1. Systematic Drug Repositioning (SDR): Instead of relying on accidental discoveries, Biovista uses data analytics to match existing chemical compounds with non-obvious disease mechanisms. This reduces early-stage drug development costs, time frames, and clinical trial risks.
  2. AI & Augmented Intelligence Platform (Project Prodigy / COSS): The company leverages proprietary platforms that combine machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), semantic search, and graph databases. It scans biomedical literature, clinical trial data, and molecular pathways to map relationships between genes, biological targets, diseases, and side effects.
  3. Drug De-Risking & Adverse Event Prediction: Biovista predicts potential toxicities or off-target adverse effects before or during clinical trials, helping pharma companies salvage stalled compounds or prepare for regulatory checks.
  4. Biovista Vizit: A visual search and graph exploration tool that lets researchers visually map connections between biomedical entities (e.g., matching a gene to a disease or compound) backed by PubMed literature sources.
Key Applications & Focus Areas
  • Therapeutic Pipelines: Biovista applies its technology to develop repositioned therapies for Central Nervous System (CNS) conditions (such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis), oncology, rare/orphan diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Collaborations: The company works with biopharmaceutical firms, academic research bodies, regulatory agencies (such as the US FDA on adverse event modeling), and patient advocacy groups.

Role within AIRIS

Biovista will help with the import, standardization and curation of the data and will export its COSS and Biovista Vizit API for integration of their applications with the AIRIS framework. Additionaly, Biovista will incorporate new datasets either public or project specific into its COSS ecosystem allowing for fast exploration, visualization and supporting evidence assesment.
