Harokopio University of Athens is a compact, research-oriented public university with complementary strengths in data science, health, nutrition and applied innovation. It hosts four academic departments: Informatics & Telematics, Nutrition & Dietetics, Economics & Sustainable Development, and Geography. For AIRIS, HUA combines data/computer science capacity with deep nutrition, molecular genetics and nutrigenetics expertise. Its activities include teaching and research in data management, AI, software engineering and digital services; nutrition, dietetics, molecular genetics, nutrigenetics and personalised health research; and participation in EU and national R&D projects, including interdisciplinary work on health-related data.
Role within AIRIS
HUA plays a central role in AIRIS, combining expertise in data science, AI and biomedical/nutritional research. HUA leads WP1: Multimodal Data Integration, Analysis and Synthesis and leads the Steatotic Liver Disease use case in WP5, while contributing to hypothesis generation, infrastructure/MLOps, and trustworthy AI activities. Its expected contributions include dataset specifications, data management and harmonisation workflows, AI agents for data linking and synthesis, analysis pipelines, validation reports, and clinical/domain interpretation for personalised nutrition and metabolic liver disease use cases.
